Step Up
A dedicated adult changes everything. Step Up pairs students at Roosevelt, McDaniel, and Franklin High Schools with an Advocate who believes in them, challenges them, and shows up all year long, in class, after school, and at home.
What We Deliver
Pre-Freshman Leadership Camp
Before ninth grade starts, students spend a week setting their own goals and building a real bond with their Advocate.
After-School Tutoring
Daily tutoring in small groups of 10–15, aligned to class curriculum, with Advocates tracking every grade and assignment.
An Advocate All Year
Coaching on leadership, study skills, and conflict resolution, plus a phone call or email when life gets in the way of school.
Families as Partners
Families know their students best. We celebrate wins and solve problems together, through Family Academy and regular contact.
Social-Emotional & Behavioral Health Support
School success is about more than grades. Every student has a dedicated adult to help them navigate challenges, build healthy relationships, and strengthen their social-emotional skills. Our work is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive, and grounded in family systems theory, because what happens at home, at school, and in the community is connected. Our Behavioral Health & Student Support Lead adds another layer of support, helping connect students, families, and staff with resources when a challenge needs more individualized attention.

Step Up accepts students in yearly cohorts starting in the summer. Applications stay open year-round.
